Our flight to Bangkok was on
October 6 to 10, 2013. Kath and I were on the same flight while Khiks got there
one day earlier. We landed at around 2 AM and so we decided to have some coffee
at Coffee World where we availed their free WIFI and stayed there until 7 AM
because that time was the first trip of the train. We were so sleepy and hungry
so we ate first our breakfast at The Period, near Khiks’ first hotel ,Boxpackers
then waited until 11 AM for our check in. We stayed at Baiyoke Sky Hotel.
Since Kat was so
sleepy, she chose to just rest in the hotel while Khiks and I decided to take a
walk and explore Bangkok. It was around 4 PM and so our first stop is the Siam
Paragon. I’m not really a fan of high end items but I think Khiks do. When we
arrived, the first shop I saw inside is H&M which is an internationally
known brand which does not have a branch yet in the Philippines. I only bought
a jacket that’s on sale. Original price is 899 Baht but I only got it for 499
Baht! wiw! J
At 6PM, we met
Kath at Pantip Plaza so we can have our dinner altogether. And since I am so in
a hurry, I went to Platinum Mall alone and bought a few items. After an hour of
walking, we finally met and ate at Black Canyon where we spent dinner for the
first 2 nights in BKK. It’s way cheaper here than in my hometown. One decent
meal which includes rice and viand or a pasta will only cost you 100 Baht. One
tip I can say is to always bring water in every restaurant or fast food you
dine in. There are no free service waters or ice here. A small bottle of water
will cost you 20 Baht in a resto while you can buy the biggest size at Watson’s
at 17 Baht only. The ice cost 5 Baht. I am so surprised when I got our bill
that even ice isn’t free.
On our Second
day, Kath and Khiks went Temple hopping as Bangkok Trip wouldn’t be complete
without it. But since it’s already my second time here, I decided to just go
shopping alone. My first stop was the Bobae Tower where I didn’t see much of
pretty clothes. I spent 150 Baht for the Tuktuk ride from the hotel to Bobae
then another 50 Baht from Bobae to MBK Mall. It was too early so I didn’t see
much good items in MBK. My last stop for the day was the Platinum Mall. Items
here are so pretty. It’s like 168 and Greenhills Shopping Mall in the
Philippines where I bought a lot of items at a very low price to the point that
I couldn’t walk anymore because of the bulk of items I bought.
On our third
day, I woke up really early and went shopping alone AGAIN at the Pratunam
market which is just in front of our hotel. This market is only open from 5-8
AM. I bet, this is like Divisoria in Ph. You can buy almost anything you want
when it comes to girly stuffs from clothes to accessories. But since this is
the last day that we can shop together, the three of us went to Platinum Mall
for our final set of shopping. This time, I am slowly becoming ripped off as I
have been shopping since day 1. But having a shopping buddy in BKK is also good
so you don’t always need to buy items in wholesale which I did in the first 2
days. In Platinum Mall, most items are 200 baht per item and you can get these
at lower prices if you buy in wholesale or at least 3 each. Some sellers may
agree on mixing clothes inside their stall for the same amount, while some will
only agree on selling for the same amount at the same design with different
colors. Just be patient in haggling and asking to mix items accordingly.
Our flight going
back to Ph is at 10 AM and so I asked Kath and Khiks to spend our remaining Bahts
at Pratunam Market. We were there at 5:20 AM and finished at almost 7 AM.
That’s what we call, “Last minute and up to the last centavo shopping”..
hihihi.. What makes Pratunam Market different is that items are much cheaper
here than in Platinum. For as low as 100 Baht, (which is equivalent to P150 in
Philippine Peso), you can have a decent top with a better quality. Of course,
there are much prettier items in Platinum but if you are looking for just
casual items, you can find it here.
The whole Bangkok
trip is so tiring but fulfilling. I was on a really tight budget for the trip
and I was so surprised that I managed to buy a lot more items than I did with
some of the Asian countries that I have visited. How I wish I can go back here
every year. I want to thank my bosses for allowing me to take my for 4 days off
from work(the maximum days allowed for us is 3 days only.hihihi)… J
I hope this blog
will be helpful for you. Just an FYI, when having trips, try to visit online
blogs to get shopping and tour ideas. You’ll never go wrong! Also, I have a
separate blog for my Bangkok Haul. Up next…
Xoxo,
Krish
